Samuel Beckett, one of Ireland's most enigmatic and world famous writers, is part of the rich and varied heritage of Cooldrinagh House and Demesne. Beckett's mother May was born here on March 1st 1871. It is clear that she held its memory in deep affection. "Cooldrinagh" means 'the quiet place of the black thorn'. This was the name given to her new home built by her husband William on the corner of Kerrymount Avenue, Foxrock in 1903.
Cooldrinagh House, was described by James Knowlson, Beckett's biographer, as "a very grand house, almost a mansion, dating from 1760, with imposing pillars at the front door, a flight of stone steps and a cast iron balustrade...".Beckett was born in Foxrock, Dublin on Good Friday 1906 and died in Paris on December 22, 1989.

Today it has been fully restored in what can only be described as a highly unusual, contemporary and atmospheric way.

In order to keep your event 'uniquely personal' Becketts closes its doors on the day to all but your invited guests... you have exclusive use of the entire hotel for the day giving you a relaxed atmosphere and complete seclusion, which takes away the obvious pressures, the day brings. The exclusivity also allows us the opportunity to give you and your guests the attention deserved and the added flexiblity to ensure all your requests and needs can be met fully.
Every wedding is singularly special and individual to those involved so we are delighted to offer a bespoke wedding co-ordination service tailored to those individual needs and requests. Delicious cuisine, a relaxed atmosphere combined with superb service where no request is too much trouble, all this and more is possible with the exclusive use of the hotel and our dedicated team.
Colin and the team at Becketts have over the last 15 years created a haven where food, comfort and service, combined with attention to detail, provide an environment that is warm, friendly and informal - the perfect treat for your family and friends.
Becketts is a small independently owned property with a personal, detailed and professional touch. We can cater for up to 120 guests. We do a limited number of weddings during the year so you may also have the added pleasure of introducing your guests to a new venue with a little something special, making your day all the more memorable in their minds also.
We pride ourselves on our extremely high standards of service and our aim is to create the most memorable day of your life.
