Camping and glamping
A wedding venue with a difference - Breckenhill is a private and secluded barn wedding venue located in the heart of County Antrim. Set in a quiet, picturesque location in the hills near Ballyclare, we offer a truly flexible and unique venue centred around two barns with the 18th century Stone Barn sympathetically restored using reclaimed slates and timber flooring and the Green Barn which is simpler but offers a larger space. Used together, the two barns provide fantastic flexibility.
Breckenhill is very private and secluded, yet conveniently located, only 30 minutes drive from Belfast, and 15 from Ballymena. We are 25 minutes from Belfast International airport, 30 from the City airport, and 25 from Larne boat terminal.
Breckenhill is a beautiful private venue comprising two restored buildings which can be used for weddings. The gardens have been developed for over 30 years and give a lot of choice for outdoor ceremonies and photographs.
We have two barns; The Stone Barn (up to 80 guests) and the The Green Barn (up to 220 guests but only c140 seated). You can use any combination of the two buildings or just one but there will never be another event on the same day.
For over 80 guests and up to 140 or so, the Green Barn is ideal, you have plenty of space for tables, casual seating and a dance area. The new sunroom extension is great for mingling, buffet tables, additional entertainment such as a photobooth, and also takes in the bar area and seating. We have a hot air heating system in the Green Barn and the South Wall is insulated with windows.
Most of our couples now use both barns with the Stone Barn at the start and then the Green Barn for the evening but the options are there for you.
We are licensed for ceremonies, both indoors (the upstairs of the Stone Barn is lovely) or in the garden if it is a nice day. We can of course be flexible and see what the weather will bring. We have a number of outdoor areas that can be considered for an outdoor ceremony but you always need one of the indoor spaces as a fallback plan.
The walls of the Green Barn have fairy lights all around as well, which is a lovely effect. We have a choice of furniture – round or long rustic tables, and blue banqueting chairs or white wooden folding chairs.
We have lots of space for mingling, outdoor seating, fire pit, braziers, and gardens for photos, garden games and wandering around.
We do not have accommodation on site but we do have a camping area and you can either use your own tents or there is a company called Yippee Tents who specialise in tent hire. We had 46 guests camping for one wedding. There are also a number of local accommodation providers who are listed in the Recommended Suppliers List, in particular Dunamoy Cottages and The Five Corners are very close.
We don’t have an alcohol licence, but you can either hire a bar service, or provide drinks yourselves, or you can do a combination of you bringing some and guests providing their own for the evening, for example. We have everything you need to create a bar, including the bar, optics, fridges, freezers, ice buckets, glasses etc.
We will supply a Recommended Suppliers list which has all kinds of companies – caterers, decorators, flowers, music, local accommodation, tents (you can camp here, but we don’t have any other accommodation), other entertainment etc. We are very happy to help you choose suppliers if you are unsure of where to start. Also, we welcome new suppliers and are constantly updating the list, so if there is someone you would like to use, but who isn’t on the list, don’t worry, but if they are a caterer we really would need them to visit the venue as this ensures that they staff up correctly!
We would strongly recommend a viewing, as the layout of the venue and how things run on the day are hard to imagine without seeing it.
You have exclusive use on the day, and access from at least the day before to set up, and can leave things overnight to be collected the next day (including cars!).
We find that our couples like to use all the different spaces at various stages of the day so often using the Stone Barn for the wedding and reception and then moving to the Green Barn for the meal and evening party.
The indoor space in the Stone Barn is very versatile with 2 floors and you can arrange and decorate to get the look you want for your day.
Photographs can be taken around the house and garden, or inside the house for a small additional fee. You can also use the neighbouring fishery for photographs.
