Description

Newtown castle is a distinctive 16th century fortified tower house, built originally for a branch of the O‘Briens and passing thereafter into the possession of the powerful local family of the O’Loghlens.

Lovingly restored to its original glory since July 1994, Newtown Castle sits now proudly at the heart of the Burren College of Art. The graduate conferring ceremony takes place on the top floor of the castle every year.

The castle is available for hire as a wedding venue and conference event location. As a national heritage site, Newtown Castle is open to the public on weekdays.

Wedding Description

From the front steps of the castle, before you walk through the small archway-like door, look up and allow your senses to take in the simplicity and strength which make Newtown Castle stand tall to this day through hundreds of years of tumultuous weather and man shaped times. We invite you to savour from the moment.

Your wedding day will hold a special place in your heart for many years to come. You will always cherish it for that perfect moment when you said “I do” …

Choose to say it here, in the Minstrels Gallery of Newtown castle, in the warmth of a welcoming fire and surrounded by those dear to your heart.

Vow your love as you have always dreamed: in a far away castle, where you can smell the salty ocean from the top and sense the breeze fresh on your skin.

Imagine yourself walking up the green avenue, holding hands and happy as can be. It is, after all, your perfect day and now, here, it certainly feels that way: this is the top of your world.
