Description

Constructed in 1816 as St. James Church and opened in 2006 as a modern tapas bar and restaurant, Sol y Sombra offers the best of both worlds — on the one hand: a 200-year-old church, with tables alit through its original stained glass windows and steeped in history, and on the other: a fully renovated nighttime locale for people to connect, share, savor and sip. Or to marry and to be merry.

Owner Cliodhna Foley’s interest in food and wine dates back to the early nineties, when she travelled to France and Spain regularly with her father, Nick, to source wines for the family restaurant.

She went on to work in the UK and Chile, where she further expanded her tastes and developed her palate, ultimately bringing her love for delicious food back home with her to Killorglin.
Today, Sol y Sombra embodies its owner’s ethos — marrying exquisite world food and wine with the specialties of local artisan producers. We select only the freshest ingredients, regularly updating our menu to reflect seasonal produce and Spanish delicacies.

Wedding Description

Have you ever wished you could bring the beauty of a wedding ceremony with you to the reception, minus all the formality? No matter how adorned a hotel wedding might be, sometimes you just want a canvas that doesn’t double as a conference room — a great, big box. At Sol y Sombra, you can finally step outside of the box.

An award-winning venue for our alternative approach to couples’ special days, Sol y Sombra hosts a wide range of wedding celebrations — from traditional Irish banquet style to multi-course, family-style tapas tasting dinners, from late-night dance and wedding bands to fire breathers and silent discos. Our vaulted ceilings are the limit.

Using our restored 200-year-old church as your palette, you get the best of both worlds — on the one hand: a traditional ceremony setting, alit through stained glass and steeped in history, and on the other: a chic, vibrant Spanish tapas bar and restaurant.
By selecting Sol y Sombra for your wedding celebration, you also get seasoned and certified experts without any of the pretension: experienced wedding planners and coordinators, a celebrated chef and food that’s been recommended twice in the Michelin guide, a Level III Sommelier to lead you to the perfect wine pairing — even tourism specialists for an expanded Reeks District experience and locating the perfect spot for your wedding photographs.
Approachable. Professional. Flexible. Creative. This is the Sol y Sombra way.

Let us help you stretch tradition to new heights.
